Nathan Watts

Curating New Sounds in Hessen

Supported by the Hessische Kulturstiftung, “Curating New Sounds in Hessen” is a project from Nathan Watts and William Overcash aimed at presenting composers and new music that have never been heard in Frankfurt am Main.  Overcash and Watts dive into the process and musical philosophy of Jeffrey Mumford and Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson through interviews and explorations of selected works.  Included in the project is Mumford’s violin/cello duo Eight Aspects of Appreciation II and Nelson’s Prelude no. 1 for solo cello.

Between 2020 and 2022, Nathan Watts and Jakob Nierenz worked closely with Jalalu-Kalvert Nelson on his 6 preludes for solo cello which are now published in full and can be purchased through Composers Edition.  Recordings of Preludes 3 and 5 are planned in May and June 2022
